Finding the perfect style bouquet should be the least stressful and one of the most enjoyable bridal tasks you could experience. However with so many options available, you may even find yourself second-guessing your original selection.
Fresh Floral Bouquets are still to be the favourite choice for most brides. Although they are more expensive, and more difficult to preserve, they’re the most traditional and natural symbol that compliments the bride, and represents true love and romance.
For a less expensive alternative, consider Silk Flowers. Although not as traditional as real flowers, they are becoming more and more popular due to their versatility and practicality. Most silk flowers look as realistic as their floral counterparts, and will last throughout your wedding day and beyond.
When choosing a style try to keep it simple and elegant, rather than bold and overpowering. Remember that less is more. The bouquet should compliment you; not take attention away from you. Here are just a few of the more popular styles.
The most traditional and formal bouquet style is the Cascade style, or “waterfall” (named because the flowers and greenery cascades, or falls downward free-flowingly) with the flowers and greenery anchored in a hand-held base. Traditionally white flowers are used in this arrangement; they include calla lilies, stephanotis, and white roses that are mixed with greenery.
The Classic Hand Tied Bouquet style is a dense bunch of flowers that are anchored in a bouquet holder, hand-tied together with ribbon or, wire for a natural, freshly “hand-picked” look.
An Arm Bouquet is an elegant crescent shaped bouquet of flowers that is cradled against one arm.
Nosegay is a general term for any small cluster of flowers that are cut to create a delicate, uniform look. Nosegays were popular during the Victoria era, and have become popular once again. A dominant flower is tied together tightly with ribbon or lace to create a simple and elegant look. Or for a more traditional look, the nosegay can be are placed in a tussie mussie (a gold or silver cone shaped holder) for carrying.
A Pomander (which is traditionally held by flower girls) is a circular bloom of flowers suspended from a ribbon.
The Fan shape is a small bouquet or cluster of flowers attached to an elaborate fan. This is a very popular style, reminiscent of the Victorian Era. It’s also very popular for old-fashioned or vintage style weddings, and Asian-inspired weddings.
The Heart style is a romantic, alternative shape bouquet, symbolizing love and romance. It features two, fully, arched shapes at the top while tapering down to a point at the bottom of the bouquet
Whichever bouquet style and flower selection you choose, make sure that it suits your needs and make you feel wonderful and confident on your wedding day.
